If you've been thinking about booking family photos on Long Island this summer, let me tell you about one of my favorite locations: Robert Moses State Park! For me, it’s the beach that I grew up going to every summer. It feels so nice to not only keep the tradition going with my own little family now, but also to be able to capture memories for families that I photograph as well!
As a Long Island family photographer, I've photographed families in many beautiful locations, but I always find myself coming back to Robert Moses Beach for summer family sessions! There is something about the beach that immediately helps everyone relax. Kids aren't expected to sit perfectly still. Parents don't have to worry about keeping everyone clean. Instead, everyone gets to simply enjoy being together - and that's when the magic really happens!
I love how much variety we can create in a short amount of time! I photograph in an area of the beach that usually is a little less crowded. There is a short boardwalk where we can take some photos, there’s beach grass and dunes that we can use for a backdrop, and of course the sandy beach and the beautiful shoreline!
The beach itself allows so much room for kids to explore. We can capture those classic family portraits, but we can also let everyone have fun. Walk together along the shoreline, play games, snuggle up on a blanket, chase your little ones through the sand, get your feet wet, bring pizza, or simply enjoy the sunset together.
Of course we'll get photos of everyone smiling at the camera, but I also want to capture your family's personality - the giggles, the cuddles, the way your toddler reaches for your hand, the way your kids run ahead and look back with huge smiles.
Especially with little kids, I truly believe the best family photography sessions happen when we let the kids BE KIDS! There is no pressure for them to perform or behave perfectly. If they want to explore, we'll explore. If they need a break, we’ll take one. If they want to collect shells, dip their toes in the water, or run back and forth across the beach a hundred times, we'll turn those moments into beautiful memories. Plus, those playful moments almost always lead to the biggest smiles!
Some families love spending most of the session by the water. Others prefer staying dry and playing in the sand. Some want lots of candid movement, while others want a mix of posed portraits and playful moments. We can tailor the session to what feels most like you.
