Nick & Lauren’s Lighthouse Proposal at Robert Moses State Park | Long Island Engagement

When Nick reached out about photographing his proposal to Lauren, I could immediately tell that he wanted to make it a meaningful and fun day for her. He already had a plan in mind, and after chatting on the phone, we mapped everything out together. One of my favorite parts of being a photographer, especially during moments as big as this, is helping bring your ideas to life. Whether you know exactly what you want or need someone to bounce ideas off of, I’m here to collaborate and help make it all happen!

We started the day at Robert Moses State Park, right by the beach. The weather had been unpredictable all week, and that morning was a little foggy, which actually worked in our favor since it wasn’t too crowded. The plan was for me to sneakily follow them from a distance as they walked toward the lighthouse together, and once they got close, Nick would propose! He told Lauren they had plans with family in Kismet later (not far from the lighthouse!) and that they would get picked up by boat by family near the lighthouse. The boardwalk was quiet and peaceful, with hardly anyone around.

As we neared the Fire Island Lighthouse, Nick got down on one knee and proposed! It was such a quiet, beautiful moment, just the two of them, surrounded by nature. I kept my distance with my zoom lens to give them space while capturing everything. Eventually, Lauren spotted me, and I officially said hi and congratulated them both. I told them to take their time enjoying the moment, and when they were ready, we’d take some portraits.

We wandered around the lighthouse, took some photos on the boardwalk, and then made our way to the beach. By the time we reached the water, the sun showed up! It really felt like it came out just for them!

Nick had one more plan up his sleeve. He then told Lauren that they were actually heading to Kismet to enjoy lunch together, just the two of them. I casually played it off that I was meeting friends in Kismet so I was heading that way as well after the session, so why not take a few more photos along the way?! After we wrapped up on the beach, we hopped into a pedicab and made our way toward Kismet.

We strolled through the town and headed towards the docks. Once we got to the docks, that’s when the next surprise kicked in! Both, Nick and Lauren’s parents were waiting there, champagne in hand, ready to celebrate with hugs and cheers! Nick’s uncle had brought them all over to Kismet by boat just for this moment. How special!

We snapped a few group photos before they all boarded the boat to head to a restaurant, where the celebrations would continue! I stood on the dock waving goodbye as they floated off into the bay, champagne glasses raised and smiles all around.

Capturing Nick and Lauren’s engagement really was such a great day from start to finish! From the proposal itself, right by the iconic Fire Island Lighthouse, to the photos on the beach, to their parents waiting to congratulate them at Kismet, it really was the most perfect day!
